TIAA holds six chapter meetings each year (three in Calgary and three in Edmonton) – free lunch meetings which are open to all TIAA members to get together to discuss latest industry news, and to get an update on TIAA initiatives. Occasionally speakers will be brought in for these meetings. Furthermore, an Annual General Meeting and a Semi-Annual Meeting are held in Red Deer every year (in May and in November) – a banquet is held in conjunction with these two annual meetings in order to ensure members have time to network with peers. Several subsidized social functions take place each year as well – barbecues in both the south and north chapters, an annual ski trip, and an annual golf tournament, held in conjunction with the May Annual General Meeting.
This quarterly newsletter is distributed to all TIAA members, in both electronic and hard copy format. TIAA members are encouraged to circulate the newsletter within their organizations. Organizations also have the opportunity to increase their profile through advertising in the newsletter.
TIAA contractor members who contribute to the industry fund within our Association may have their employee’s pulmonary function and chest x-ray test costs paid for by TIAA. This is a benefit for members and some conditions and guidelines apply.

Courses may include Construction Safety Training System (CSTS), WHMIS, Safety Officer training, Certificate of Recognition (COR) Program, as well as many other courses including Substance Abuse Prevention Program (SAPP) and H2S Awareness to a maximum of $500 annually per member.

TIAA has sponsored an Insulation Energy Appraisal Program (IEAP) during 2002. This was a 2-day seminar, which evaluates the Thermal Performance of Insulated versus Uninsulated Piping and Equipment. The program was developed by the National Insulation Association (NIA) and is designed to give facility/energy managers a better understanding of the true dollar and performance value of an insulated system. This program is a tool that quantifies the amount of energy and actual dollars a facility is losing with its current “in-place insulation system”. It also demonstrates how a more efficient system can save hundreds of thousands of Btu, improve process control and efficiency, reduce costs, and contribute to a cleaner environment through the reduction of emissions into the atmosphere. Successful participants are certified appraisers, with examinations generated and corrected by a third party certification organization (NIULPE). The intensive training is provided by professionals and certifies an individual for 3 years. The program teaches how to:
Some pre-qualifications apply for those interested and other details are available through our Association office. Seminar fees for TIAA members are subsidized, with significant savings benefiting members. A complete manual and computer software program is included for each participant as well.
The National Insulation Training Program (NITP) and another program developed by the National Insulation Association (NIA) called “Insulation: The Lost or Forgotten Technology” may be offered to the industry by TIAA, if enough interest makes it worthwhile to hold the above. For more information please see the NIA website at www.insulation.org.
